Meet the GP Partners

Dr Subeena Suleman

I am the Executive Partner at Iridium Medical Practice. I have a passion for primary care, governance and systems population health.

I am the Inequalities Lead for the East Birmingham Locality and a member of the GP Partnership Board for BSOL ICS.

Dr Rizwan Alidina

I am a Partner at Iridium Medical Practice. I qualified in Leeds and following a brief period when I trained in Anesthesia, I joined the Chesterfield training scheme for General Practice where I qualified in 2009.

I joined Iridium in 2011 and have been here since as a full-time partner. At Iridium I am the Caldicott Guardian and the lead for Injections.

My passion is around health inequalities and narrowing the gap in life expectancy, disease and life expectations. I have worked with the CCG and have led on a COVID 19 mobile vaccination program.

Dr Razia Shaik

I am a Partner at Iridium Medical Practice. I qualified in Hyderabad, India in 2004. After training in Paediatrics for a very short period, I joined South Birmingham General Practice Vocational Training Scheme in 2008 and qualified as a GP in 2012.

I joined Iridium in 2015 as a Locum and became a Partner in 2019. I enjoy teaching medical students. My special interests are Women’s health, Contraception, Child health, Safeguarding and Learning Disability

Dr Nuzhat Latif

I am a Partner at Iridium Medical Practice. I qualified from University of Birmingham in 2004. My special interests are family planning, menopause, undergraduate and postgraduate education.

I am a proud mum of 2. My hobbies are cycling, keeping fit and cooking. I also have a passion in medicine.

Dr Osama Akhtar

I am one of the partners at Iridium Medical Practice and I joined the surgery in 2018. I trained as a GP in Birmingham and have been working in the city since.

I am the lead for care homes at the practice and have expertise in Cardiology and Respiratory medicine. Languages I can speak in include Urdu and Punjabi

Dr Nahmana Khan

I qualified from Imperial College London in 1999, where I also did a BSc in Biochemistry. I did my GP VTS in Leicester. I am trained in Joint injections and am a Tutor for University of Birmingham Medical School.

I have been a GP partner for approximately 20 years at Poolway Medical Centre and then joined Iridium Medical Practice in October 2022. I am currently the GP lead for East Birmingham INT.

This is a multidisciplinary team of specialists in primary care, secondary care and community care who meet up regularly to review local patients who frequently access NHS services, to evaluate whether additional, more specialist support can be provided to these patients.

Fauzia Khan

Deputy Practice Manager

I have a background in Law, but have now been working as a Practice Manager in primary care for 15 years. I have extensive experience in all areas of management and have assisted GP practices with 3 moves and a merger.

I have been at Iridium Medical Practice for over a year and head the Practice Experience Team and Human Resources Team. I have a particular interest in clinical IT systems and digital inclusion in health care.

Saiqa Parveen

Business Manager

Having worked in a range of roles in the NHS for over 16 years, I joined Iridium Medical Practice in early 2020 as the Business Manager. My role focuses on strategy, service design, finance and business development.

I completed LLB (Hons) in 2003, and I continued to qualify as a Chartered Certified Accountant completing my ACCA.

My primary focus at Iridium is supporting the implementation of the organization’s strategic vision and ensuring the practice is at the forefront of driving the best healthcare service for our patients at IMP.

Nasreen Akhtar

Admin Manager

My name is Nasreen Akhtar. I have worked for the NHS since 1993 in various admin roles which has helped me gain all-round experience and knowledge of work in General Practice. I joined Iridium Medical Practice in April 2021 as an Administrative Manager.

My main role is day-to-day direct line management of the admin and secretarial teams. I am experienced in supervising a high performing team to ensure all aspects of office administration is carried out effectively against demanding resources and time constraints. In addition to this I am also responsible for overseeing and maintaining the Safeguarding registers and Gold Standard Framework register.

 I work closely together with the Practice Non-Clinical Cancer Champions to promote cancer screening awareness and implementation and delivery of the National Cancer Screening Programmes.

I am passionate about providing continuous coaching and mentoring to my team, motivating and developing their skills and confidence to fulfil their potential as well as looking after their health and well-being.

My main aim and focus is to support Iridium Medical Practices mission to build productive and supportive relationships with our teams within our organisation and external service providers. To work collaboratively as ‘One Team’ to provide and deliver excellent health and care services to our patients, their families and carers.

Shagufta Jahangir

Operations Manager

My role at Iridium Medical Practice as an Operations Manager includes overseeing and ensuring daily operation systems to meet patients’ requirements.  

I organise the clinical rotas  which allows Iridium Medical Practice to offer the most suitable appointments for our patients and ensure our patients needs are met.

I also manage the extended clinics we run six days a week which allows us to offer additional appointments for our patients and across our PCN practices.  I also deal with resolving all the IT issues within the organisation.

Aakash Ali

Reception Manager

During my time at Iridium Medical Practice, I developed into the role of Reception Manager after starting out as a receptionist in February 2021 during the pandemic.

As Reception Manager my professional passions are improving access by being accessible as a manager to patients, reducing call wait times, encouraging online access all the whilst creating a dynamic reception team to guide our patients in their most difficult moments.

I qualified from University of Birmingham and joined Iridium Medical Practice in January 2022. My role consists of performing clinical examinations, diagnosing illnesses, developing treatment plans and advising on disease prevention and health promotion.

Following my academic and clinical training, I developed special interest in Mental Health having developed skills relating to the implementation of both non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods of management.

Damien Phillips

Senior Social Prescribing Link Worker

I am the Senior Social Prescribing Link worker for The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS). I manage a team of social prescribing link workers in the Birmingham East Team – Shard End, Kitts Green and the Bordesley East Primary Care Networks (PCN). This covers 13 surgeries, in the East Birmingham area across two Neighbourhood Network Schemes and localities (Yardley NNS and Hodge Hill NNS).

First of all, my role is to manage my team, and to keep the service innovative liaising with stakeholders from both localities with workshops and proactive social prescribing workshops we’ve developed to meet the needs of each PCN and envelope community services, activities and venues around the PCNs. 

I am very passionate about helping people, and linking them into the best services, community activities across Birmingham to aid their physical and mental  well-being.

I am a Social Prescribing Link Worker working for The Active Wellbeing Society. I am dedicated to helping people and connecting them to a range of community services to provide a tailored approach for physical and emotional well-being support ensuring an holistic for all.

Alongside my colleagues, we work proactively to develop workshops in local venues within the local community to meet the needs of the PCN and its patients.

With a strong commitment to improving patients’ quality of life, I excel in building partnerships with local agencies and organisations to provide comprehensive support beyond traditional medical treatment.

Meet the Pharmacy Team

Clinical Pharmacists & Pharmacy Technicians

Our Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians play a crucial role in medication management. They work closely with our doctors to optimize drug therapy, prevent medication-related issues, and educate patients about their medications. This collaboration ensures safe and effective treatment plans.

Prescription Clerks

Our Prescription Clerks process prescriptions via email, phone, online apps and paper requests. They accommodate housebound, elderly patients over the age of 75 and patients with other difficulties. This is done through doing tasks such as answering medication queries, liaising with pharmacy’s, appliances and other health care professionals. They also arrange consent forms for pharmacies to order on patients’ behalf.

As the Clinical Pharmacist Lead, I manage the pharmacy team and lead the medicines management within the practice. I consult with patients about their chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and heart failure.

I will also advise patients on their blood test results and guide patients on healthy eating and living. I also run a Women’s Health Clinic to discuss contraception and menopause for patients at the practice and in the PCN

Immunisation Admin Lead

I am the Immunisation Admin Lead & Non-Clinical Champion for the practice. My main role is to ensure all parents and patients are invited in for the vaccinations they are due or eligible for and that all patients are also as informed as possible regarding the vaccinations.

I am always happy to speak with patients about any queries or concerns they have and help direct or advise.

In addition to this, I am also responsible for maintaining the Cervical Cancer Screening registers and promoting awareness.

I also book Mother and baby clinics for their primary immunization and postnatal care.

Our Administration Team includes a team of GP Secretaries & Administration Staff who manage your health records & ensure all records are kept accurate and up to date.

Their remit includes: completing referrals, scanning & coding of documents, managing systems, monitoring & communicating with patients regarding long term conditions and medical reviews and undertaking NON-NHS work such as completing requests for private letters, medical reports and Subject Access Requests for medical records.
